Introduction
Welcome to the Coaching Hive! If you are a new listener, I’m Dr. Moira your guide and mentor on your path to realizing the coaching business that you envision.
I am so excited you’re here with me today.
Gratitude, according to Dictionary.com, is the quality or feeling of being grateful or thankful. This week in the United States we celebrate Thanksgiving. It is traditionally a time for family and friends, many people spend the month of November practicing the art of gratitude.
Because this is the week of Thanksgiving, this will be a very short episode so that you can take time to reconnect with your family and friends. Give them a call, FaceTime them, send a text letting them know what they mean to you.
I do want to spend just a little time talking with you about the connection between measuring progress and gratitude. At first glance, they may not seem or feel connected, but they are intimately connected.
Think about the last time you were successful with a task or goal. Did you take time to reflect and recognize what that success brought you either personally or professionally? Or did you simply keep moving forward?
This is where measuring progress, as we’ve talked about over the past several episodes, is more than just a number or series of numbers. It is about the whole being.
It might make intuitive sense to say ok I’ll stop to express gratitude for the success, and maybe you have done that. Maybe you’ve even done that regularly, but what about expressing gratitude when the goal or plan doesn’t meet your expectations?
If you think about those same earlier episodes, I bet you are shaking your head no. You know that this is an equally good time for gratitude. Let me give you an example.
Perhaps you were hoping to welcome 5 new clients to your coaching practice this month and at the end of the month you realize that you welcomed one new client. At first glance this does not meet the numbers goal you had in mind, but let’s explore it from a different perspective and see how gratitude can play a big role in moving forward into the possibilities.
During this month you signed one new client and in working to expand your practice you also did the following tasks. You met 3 new possible community partners, were consistent on your social media platforms, and you even researched a new tool that you think might help your clients. In other words, you may not have met that number goal, but you made progress in many others directions that will support you in future months as you welcome more clients into your business.
Let me ask you, do you have something for which to be grateful? Yes. You can still practice gratitude even when the progress doesn’t happen in the just the way you hoped.
Conclusions
I promised you a really short episode so that you can go spend time reflecting and reconnecting. The key point to this episode is that as you look for and find opportunities for gratitude, it becomes easier and easier to see the good. When you shift to this positive mindset of possibility, possibilities often seem to become more abundant.
On that note, to all of my USA listeners have a Happy Thanksgiving and to everyone, I hope you have a happy, safe and peaceful week. I’ll see you back here next week for a new episode of the Coaching Hive podcast. Have a great week!
